Florida Law Enforcement Looks to Using Hurricane Irma

With the threat of a category 5 Hurricane Irma on the way, Sheriff’s offices in counties around Florida are getting creative in their administration. The Polk County’s Sheriff’s Office plans to have law enforcement officers checking the identification of any folks seeking shelter to prevent child molesters from being sheltered near children. Many residents of Polk County have had a negative reaction to the Sheriff’s news asking what will happen if their identification is lost due to the chaos of evacuation. After the televised press conference they Sheriff’s department released a statement saying, “We are aware of the public’s concerns, but we have a duty to protect the public from possible predators. We absolutely cannot risk the safety of the public by letting unidentified persons into the shelter.”

Following the lead from Polk County, other counties from Florida are looking for ways hurricane Irma can help solve their law enforcement problems within this year’s fiscal budgets. At Palm Beach County a plan to execute death row inmates by tying them to crosses in John D McArthur Beach State Park is underway. A press release from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said, “It is our mission to protect the public from dangerous people within budget using creative methods to save the taxpayers money.”
